Capital Area Leaders Attend Inaugural Interfaith Preparedness Group Meeting

Several Capital Area Regional Leaders attended the inaugural Interfaith Preparedness & Advisory Group (IPAG) meeting on February 28, sponsored by the Mayor’s Office of Religious Affairs and the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA). Pictured are Paula Edwards, Rev. Allen Harris, and Rev. Steven Baines. They attended in hopes of helping all of our congregations and institutions in the Capital Area Region be safer, smarter, and more secure. They learned about the Non-Profit Security Grant funding opportunities that are available to churches and non-profit organizations for physical security improvements for your facilities, and some training (not for security staff). There is an Urban Areas Security Initiative (which includes Washington DC and a broad swath of nearby counties) has $50 million available. There is a General State program that has another $10 million.
